When is avatar day
Following the rescue, the villagers exonerated the Avatar and the festivity became a celebration to honor Aang and all future Avatars. The Avatar warned Chin that she would not sit passively while he took her home when Chin arrived to the peninsula with his army. Despite this, Chin persisted and challenged the Avatar, prompting her to enter the Avatar State in order to separate the peninsula from the mainland, creating Kyoshi Island in the process.
Chin fell into the sea below when the overhand on which he stood collapsed as the ground separated. Following the incident, the people of Chin Village decided to honor their leader while also condemning the Avatar in the form of a festival, which was celebrated on the day of Chin's death and eventually became known as Avatar Day.
In AG, the Avatar Day festival was similar to a parade, featuring vendors selling deep-fried foods, candied plums, and sugar dumplings on sticks. The celebration attracted many locals to the point where several businesses closed for the day to witness the festivities at hand.
After learning about the celebration, the group decided to attend, not realizing its true purpose. When they discovered that the celebration was in fact a festival to shame the Avatar, Aang defended his previous incarnation, in genuine disbelief over the prospect of Kyoshi having been involved in the death of Chin.
In order to defend the honor of the Avatar, Aang allowed the village to arrest him and put him on trial. In the meantime, Sokka and Katara journeyed to Kyoshi Island to learn more about Avatar Kyoshi in an attempt to collect sufficient evidence to clear the Avatar's name. After failing to properly relay the evidence Sokka and Katara had gathered and convince the villagers of his innocence, Aang dressed in Kyoshi's old clothing in a last effort to trigger a connection with his past life.
Kyoshi manifested in Aang 's body to explain the events surrounding Chin 's death. Kyoshi appeared through Aang's body and gave her testimony to the crime, essentially pleading guilty. He cried out in frustration, but because he was too stubborn to walk away, he fell to his death when the ground broke off from under his feet. Once Kyoshi disappears, Aang asks Katara what happened, and she tells him that he confessed to the murder.
The village brings out a wheel for Aang to spin to determine his punishment. It lands on being boiled in oil, but before the sentence can be carried out, the Rough Rhinos arrive and attempt to take over the village.
Fearing for his safety, the mayor quickly changes the punishment to community service and pleads with Aang to "do a service to the community" by defeating the warriors, which he, Sokka, and Katara do. The trio engages the warriors in battle and is successful in driving them away.
Sokka regains his boomerang during the battle exclaiming, "Boomerang! You do always come back! Since Aang was not boiled in oil on that day, the celebration involves eating effigies of the Avatar made from unfried dough.
Sokka, unnerved by the whole experience, offers the opinion that Chin Village is "by far the worst town [they have] ever been to". Meanwhile, ashamed of the position in which he finds himself, Zuko disguises himself as the Blue Spirit to steal from the wealthy. First, he runs on the roofs of the houses and attacks a man and a woman to steal their baskets with provision. Hiding the mask and swords, the prince returns to the cave to his uncle Iroh , where they have temporarily settled.
His uncle comments on how he does not like the fact that his nephew has been hiding the source of their provisions, but nevertheless, Iroh eats eats the food. Later, Zuko robs a tax collector in the coach, easily defeating the guards and stealing the money, and uses it to decorate their cave.
Iroh tells him to not be ashamed of poverty and, when Zuko mentions one more time the capture of the Avatar, he adds that it will not solve all their problems and he must not fall into despair.
Worried about how the prince is coping with the situation, Iroh tells him, "in the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself.
That is the meaning of inner strength". Zuko tells his uncle that he has to find his way in life, which Iroh understands and decides not to stop Zuko when he goes out of the cave and, after thinking about what his uncle said, decides to travel alone.
